The beginning.

I’ve tried to keep a regular blog before.  I have failed each time.  I’m writing a lot more lately, so I figure this might be a good place to keep people updated on my goings on, etc.

I’m going to try and post at least weekly.  Yikes.

There are quite a few things in motion at the moment, writing-wise.

Chances are, you found yourself here because of an interview or an article at Comics Creator News.  I’ve always loved talking and writing about comics, and I’m excited to be able to do both of those things at CCN.  Special thanks to Mark Mazz for the opportunity!

In addition to the conversational interviews I’m working on, I’m also hoping to write more in depth articles on the creative comics process.  I’m one of those “process junkies.”

Last year I started my first comic project called “Annabelle Avery: Steampunk Girl.”  I learned a lot while working on it, and tried to take what I learned and spin it off into a Kickstarter campaign in August of 2013.  Unfortunately I only reached 50% of my ambitious $8K goal.  I think the main reason it failed was due to the fact that people just aren’t interested in paying $20 for an 80 page comic (duh?).

Regardless, artist Mike Gallagher and myself are working on completing the project, and hope to pitch it to publishers in late 2014.  It is turning out amazing, and you’ll be able to find more updates at the main Annabelle Avery website weekly starting in 2014.

I’ve been published twice through Emerald Star Comics, and hope to do some more work with them in the future.  I also have an issue of a comic through Red Leaf Comics that I’m really excited about, but I can’t talk about it just yet.  I also hope to be a part of Pronto Comics upcoming horror anthology, but time will tell on that one.

In addition to all of this, I do have a day job.  I’m a copywriter for a company you’ve heard of, but I don’t want to get in trouble by mentioning them.

Oh, and on top of that I work ANOTHER part-time job AND my wife and I are expecting our first child in February.

2014 is poised to be my busiest and most exciting year yet.  I could get overwhelmed, but I’m not concerned.  I’m a guy who runs on a lot of faith.  My dependence on God is something fierce.
